    • students should arrive for their exams directly before starting times and not spend time before or after exams congregating at the school
    • the distance between students sitting exams will be maximised to ensure more than 1 metre between students.
    • outside school, students are advised to stay away from this and other schools and childcare, and avoid close contact with others until the end of this week

Any immediately affected people are advised to stay in home isolation. As a precaution, all students of the school community are asked to remain in isolation while the school is closed.

To help reduce the spread of infection, we encourage you and your family to practise good hygiene. This includes:

  • washing your hands frequently with soap and water or using an alcohol based hand gel
  • washing your hands prior to touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
  • using tissues which should be disposed of immediately.

Parents, students and staff should also monitor for symptoms such as fever and any one of the following:

  • cough
  • sore throat
  • runny nose or nasal congestion.

If any of these symptoms develop, please call your General Practitioner (call ahead before presenting at the clinic) or call 13HEALTH (13 43 25 84).

We are mindful of any interruptions to your child’s learning program, and will work with you to minimise the impact of this period of school closure. This website will contain additional details regarding the school closure including school work for your student.

Year 8 and Year 9 students who were scheduled to complete exams over the next three days will now be required to sit for these exams on their return from school holidays. These exams will occur in normal class time.

Queensland Health continues to closely monitor this situation and should it change, the school community will be advised. Please stay informed by paying attention to media reports. Updates will be available on the Department of Education and Training website at http://www.deta.qld.gov.au/.

As we come to the final week of what has been a very disrupted second term I would like to sincerely thank parents for their support and understanding through work stoppages, closure due to bad weather and the on-going threat of closure due to H1N1 influenza. I can’t recall any other time when so many external factors have impacted on the day to day operations of our school. Despite these challenges I am confident students are well prepared for end of term examinations this week.

I would like to take this opportunity to ask parents to please ensure that when students return after the winter vacation, that they return wearing correct school uniform – particularly the correct school jumper. Our uniform shop has uniform jumpers for sale at very reasonable prices that allow all our students to maintain the correct wearing of uniform even during the cooler winter months. It is quite ironic that at times when teachers have to ask students wearing expensive brand name jumpers to take those jumpers off they are informed by students that they can’t afford to purchase the school jumper while wearing a brand name jumper purchased for three times the cost of a school jumper.

I would like to extend my congratulations to three of our staff who have promoted to permanent positions recently. Mrs Donna Lancaster has been promoted to Deputy Principal and Mrs Andrea Evans to Head of Department (Social Science) at Mountain Creek High School while Mrs Emma Curnow has been promoted to Head of Department (English) at Coolum State High School. She will take up duty at Coolum at the beginning of next term.

Best wishes for a well deserved winter vacation.
