Welcome to our November issue of the school newsletter. The first weeks of term 4 have been devoted to preparations for our 15th annual Awards Night. This evening was once again a gala event where over 400 students were awarded for their outstanding efforts in academic, sporting, cultural and community endeavours. The outstanding achievements of those student who were presented with the major awards is a clear indication of the calibre of student that attends Mountain Creek State High School and the breadth of the academic and extra-curricular programs available to students. Special congratulations to Ms Nicole Haxton who coordinated the awards ceremony. I would like to congratulate those students who received awards on the night and extend my sincere thanks to parents for your support and encouragement. Your students are a credit to you. It is apparent that to achieve one of the major awards at Mountain Creek you have to have gained perfect academic scores or gained Australian representation. Parents and caregivers will note the next few weeks are very busy with final exams for our Year 12 IB and Year 12 QSA students. Following year 12 final exams we have the graduation ceremonies both day and evening on the 19th November. This is an exciting time for our graduating year 12’s,however I would ask that students remember to stay safe and look out for your friends during this time of celebration. The day ceremony provides an opportunity for grandparents and other family members to celebrate with the Year 12 graduates. Unfortunately, because of the large number of graduates we are only able to provide tickets for parents for the evening ceremony. At the last P&C meeting in October, three of our long serving and hard working members announced their intention to retire from the P&C. They are Julie O’Connor (President for the past 5 years), Sue Travers (Treasurer for the past 10 years) and Chris Jones (Secretary for the past 7 years). All three ladies have long since farewelled their students from Mountain Creek and have continued to serve on the P&C. I would sincerely like to thank them for their tireless work and acknowledge the experience they brought to the P&C Association. I wish them well in their retirement from active P&C duties. I would encourage all parents to consider taking on a P&C executive position as the members are friendly and the P&C is organised in such a way that the duties are not onerous and definitely enjoyable.
