Curriculum Structure

A three tiered curriculum structure operates for Year 11 and 12 students.  It is designed to allow students to study in classes with students of similar abilities, interests and aspirations.

QSA1 is designed for tertiary bound students.  They are required to study English, Maths B or Maths A and 4 other subjects from a selection of 17 elective subjects.  Invitations to study QSA1 are offered to students with good results in English and Maths and excellent behaviour and industry results in year 10.  Continuing enrolment in QSA1 subjects is dependent on satisfactory results in year 11 and excellent behaviour and industry ratings.

QSA2 is designed for OP eligible students who may not necessarily be seeking admission to highly competitive university faculties.  They are required to study English, Maths A or pre Vocational Maths and 4 other subjects from a selection of 26 elective subjects.

TECH Option is designed for students who are not seeking a tertiary entrance (OP) score.  Within the Tech option students have 2 choices:

  1. SCHOOL TAFE – a programme designed for students who have already identified their preferred career choices.  Students study full time at TAFE, however, they are enrolled at MCSHS.  This option is accessed by an application process and an interview.
  2. SCHOOL TECH – students will exit with qualifications in a range of Certificate II courses.  These courses will be career specific and enhanced by options for work preparation and community service.
